Tea Guide

What is Tea?

One plant, many teas!

Many of the teas that are produced worldwide, all come from the same plant species – Camellia Sinensis. The difference comes because of the region of harvest and processing that imparts unique flavour and strength. The flavours range from sweet and fragrant to chocolatey and nutty. There is a whole gamut of flavours to choose from.

But we did not stop there, with the expertise of our Director & Tea Sommelier Dr. Rupali Ambegaonkar, we have concocted a whole range of exotic blends that will enthral your senses and impart unbelievable health benefits. Doesn’t matter if you like floral or fruity or a simple healthy cup of Matcha, we have you covered. Explore your world of teas (link to all teas section)

Benefits & wellness

We do not call it an elixir for no reason. Tea is one of the most favorite beverages of the world that comes loaded with health benefits. Innumerable studies, in ancient as well as recent times, have shown the preventive and curative properties of tea.

Anti-Cancer:
EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate) in green teas help prevent the growth of cancer cells in the body. Green tea has polyphenols that work like any other cancer drug, blocking the carcinogenic compounds and inhibiting the over-production of cyclooxygenase, an enzyme associated with diseases like arthritis and cancer. White tea is known to contain the highest levels of EGCG amongst all teas. Explore our White Tea Collection now

Weight Loss:
Yes, it’s true. Green tea helps you lose weight. Green tea contains high levels of polyphenols that help dissolve excess triglycerides (the synthesized sugars and fats contained in your body) that helps you lose weight and burn fat, if had consistently.

Antioxidant Properties:
Our body needs only a certain level of oxygen. Excessive amount of oxygen in the body acts as a free radical agent and oxidizes some of the substances it comes in contact with and could lead to oxidation of lipids, destruction of cell membranes and even damages the DNA. The antioxidants of green tea effectively and efficiently scavenge these toxins. Highest levels of antioxidants can be found in Rooibos tea from South Africa. Learn more about it here.

Boosts Metabolism:
The catechins and polyphenols stimulate the nervous system and increase the metabolism rate of the human body. Research has shown that compounds in tea are helpful in speeding up the rate of fat oxidation and increasing endurance levels during exercise

Anti-Diabetic Effects:
The catechins inhibit the movement of glucose in fat cells, thereby, improving insulin resistance and glucose tolerance levels. However, we suggest that you consult a doctor before making it part of your diet plan.
The Milk Oolong tea is specially crafted for diabetics that lets you enjoy a sweet tea without affecting the insulin levels. Know more about Milk Oolong

Antibiotic Effects:
Researchers have discovered that catechins in teas possess antibiotic properties as they play a role in disrupting a specific stage of bacterial DNA replication.

Improves Heart Health and Reduces Cholesterol:
Green tea helps reduce bad cholesterol while increase good cholesterol. Polyphenols in green tea can help block the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and promote its excretion from the body while the Caffeine and EGCG in green tea collaborate to prolong the life of norepinephrine, which helps burn body fat.

Anti-ageing properties:
Collagen and oxygen help keep your skin young and supple. Green teas contain high levels of Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (OPC) that are very powerful antioxidants to combat the free radicals, which are harmful for the skin. Regular consumption of green tea can slow down the premature signs of ageing.

Boosting Mental Alertness:
Amino acid L Theanine is a compound found almost exclusively in the tea plant. The compound is absorbed by the small intestine and crosses the blood brain barrier where it reacts with the neurotransmitters in the brain. This in turn, increases the alpha brain wave activity and alters the attention network of the brain which results in a calmer yet more alert state of mind.

Boosting Immune System:
With more antioxidants present in a cup of tea as compared to any fruit or vegetable and with polyphenols attacking free radicals, green tea boosts your immune system

Improving Lung Function:
Green tea is beneficial for people suffering from asthma, bronchitis, sinus allergies and even lung cancer. Antioxidants are also replenished in the body of smokers. Therefore, green tea consumption is recommended for smokers and non-smokers alike.

Effects on Rheumatoid Arthritis:
Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease that causes pain, swelling, stiffness and loss of function in the joints. Researchers have discovered that green tea contains compounds that inhibit the pathways that cause inflammation and bone destruction. Medical practitioners often consider green tea as an essential dietary supplement for patients of rheumatoid arthritis along with conventional treatment.

Lowers chances of Cognitive Impairment:
The EGCG present in green tea reduces the chances of cognitive impairment by over 50%

Lowers Stress Hormone Levels:
Green tea is known to lower the stress hormone - cortisol, which in turn helps you cope with stress.

Effects on Irritable Bowel Syndrome:
Polyphenols reduce intestinal infections and thereby bring relief to the IBS

Effects on Bad Breaths and Tooth Decays:
